DESCRIPTION:The 10th Annual USC-JAMS Arbitration Symposium: Arbitration in the Pacific Rim will take place on September 10\, 2026\, in Los Angeles. Celebrating our 10th anniversary\, the Symposium will bring together arbitrators\, counsel\, in-house lawyers\, and institutional leaders from across the region to examine the issues and developments shaping international arbitration throughout the Pacific Rim. \nSeptember 10\, 2026 | Los Angeles\, California \nREGISTER HERE \nThis year’s program will feature a keynote address by Abby Cohen Smutny\, Partner and former Global Head of White & Case’s International Arbitration Practice\, as well as a corporate counsel roundtable luncheon\, five substantive panel discussions\, and a networking reception. \nThe panels will address a range of timely topics\, including differing expectations in arbitration practice across jurisdictions; energy transition disputes; evolving corporate approaches to cross-border dispute resolution; strategies for achieving better outcomes throughout the arbitral lifecycle; and changing considerations surrounding seat\, venue and enforcement in the Americas. \nPresented in collaboration with CalArb\, the ITA Americas Initiative\, and the Centro de Arbitraje de México (CAM)\, the Symposium will offer perspectives from across jurisdictions\, industries\, and institutions. DESCRIPTION:Mock Cross-Examination Skills Workshop: Mastering Expert Witness Examination \nin Arbitration Join the American Arbitration Association®-International Centre for Dispute Resolution® (AAA-ICDR®)\, Young CalArb\, and IBA Arb40 for an immersive\, half-day legal skills workshop designed to strengthen advocacy in international arbitration. \nThis interactive program places participants in a realistic arbitration setting where they will conduct and observe the cross-examination of an expert witness in a fictional international commercial dispute. Working in teams under the guidance of experienced arbitrators\, counsel\, and expert witnesses\, participants will practice strategic questioning\, witness control\, impeachment techniques\, and effective use of expert evidence. Each mock hearing will conclude with a structured faculty debrief providing practical feedback on advocacy style\, examination strategy\, and persuasive techniques used during the simulation. \nUnlike traditional lecture-based programs\, this workshop emphasizes experiential learning through hands-on participation and direct observation. It is designed for junior and mid-level practitioners\, in-house counsel\, and arbitration professionals seeking to develop practical hearing skills applicable to international arbitration proceedings.
