Biographical Info Jeffery Daar has practiced law since 1982 and is a principal of the law firm of Daar & Newman. Jeffery takes a holistic approach to clients’ legal and business issues. His diverse expertise includes strategic planning, complex state and federal litigation, innovative dispute resolution, and international transactions and disputes. Biography
Jeffery Daar is a principal of the law firm Daar & Newman. Jeff has more than 25 years of extensive experience in cross-border disputes including both in courts and arbitration. He collaborates with lawyers all over the world on every continent. His diverse expertise includes international arbitration and cross-border litigation and transactions, complex state and federal litigation, recognition and enforcement of foreign money judgments and arbitral awards, class actions, employment, trade secrets and technology disputes, insurance including insurance insolvency, appellate work, private post-secondary schools and colleges, and intellectual property. He has extensive experience with provisional remedies including preliminary injunctions, attachments, and other prejudgment relief including in international arbitrations.
Jeff also serves, in addition, as an arbitrator in domestic and international arbitration matters, including for the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA), Vancouver International Arbitration Centre (VanIAC), Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), South China International Arbitration Center (HK) (SCIAHK), and the American Arbitration Association (AAA).
He has much expertise in disputes involving differing cultures, languages and legal systems. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has spoken all over the world on international arbitration and litigation. Jeff was the Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the California Lawyers Association (2020-2023) and is a founder and President-Elect of California Arbitration, Inc. (CalArb) (2022-.) Along with Gary Benton, he was the founder of California International Arbitration Week and was a Co-Chair (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025). Jeff is currently organizing and a Co-Chair of the 2026 California International Arbitration Week. He was also Chair of the Consulegis International Litigation and Arbitration Specialist Group for a number of years coordinating lawyers in 30 plus countries. Jeff is also a Past Chair of both The State Bar of California International Law Section and the International Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Three different Mayors of the City of Los Angeles have appointed Jeff as a Los Angeles City Commissioner. He has most recently served as President of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, served on the Board of Airport Commissioners for the Los Angeles World Airports, and was Chairperson of the Los Angeles Rent Adjustment Commission for 10 years.
