Biography

Peter Mason FCIArb is an arbitrator and mediator and an independent (non-executive) director of companies in the US and Japan.

He is a member of Arbitra International, a panel of distinguished ADR professionals and has issued more than thirty reasoned awards. He has a broad commercial ADR practice with a special focus on disputes about trusts, families and estates, finance and investments, and fiduciary duties. He is on the roster of arbitration institutions around the world including Tokyo and London.

Peter Mason has forty years’ experience first as an international commercial litigator in Sydney, Australia and in New York; and then as a C-suite senior executive and global chief legal officer of Unicef, a high-profile multi-billion dollar enterprise with world-wide operations. At Unicef he served on the Finance Committee and oversaw the investment of a retiree benefits fund with $2.1B AUM (as of June 2021); he served on the Audit Committee for eight years.

In addition to his ADR practice, Peter Mason is an independent Board member of Franklin Templeton’s LMP closed-end funds; he is chair of the Board’s Compensation Committee and serves on the Board's Audit, and Pricing and Valuation, and Nominating Committees. He is also a Supervisory Board Member of the GHIT Fund, a Tokyo-based angel investor in the biopharma space.

Peter Mason graduated from the University of Sydney with degrees in Economics (with Honours) and in Law. He is a dual national of Australia and the United States. He is based in New York and accepts appointments globally.
